Advocates of employee participation split naturally into two groups: those who would start at board‐room level by placing worker directors on company boards; and those who would start at shop‐floor level. The two approaches differ markedly, the former having to do mainly with guarding the worker interest and the other with optimising the influence of employees to improve economic performance.
