The phenomenon known as the revolving door occurs when redundancy and recruitment occur simultaneously. It is becoming more prevalent because of the accelerating pace of change in organizations and the inability of many individuals to adapt sufficiently quickly. Identifies some of the problems which this phenomenon causes and suggests ten themes of organizational behaviour which help the revolving door to turn more smoothly. These include: a clear vision of the organization and its attitude towards its people; open communication about the reasons for the revolving door; an understanding of the logic behind the strategy for new recruits; visible leadership; improving effectiveness; personal responsibility for career management; and acting with integrity.
