Staff remuneration costs on the increase

KeywordsEmployees, Pay

A regular survey by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has revealed that the cost of employee remuneration continues to rise.

CIMA members were asked to assess how costs of a range of factors in their businesses, including employee remuneration, had increased over the last 12 months, relating to average cost increases.

Fifty-two per cent of the 250 financial directors and controllers interviewed thought that employee remuneration had become a "significant cost" (compared to 31 per cent in 1995).

Many factors associated with management and employees continue to dominate the costs of doing business. Fifty per cent of respondents agree that staff and recruitment costs have increased over the last 12 months. Training costs have also risen over the same period, say 49 per cent of those questioned.
