Team building with a difference

Keywords Seminars, Team building, Training

You need to communicate with an aircraft flying overhead the vital message is contained within a jigsaw the size of your front room! Could you assemble it against the clock before the plane flies off?

Some terrorists have abandoned some nuclear waste barrels and the caps have fallen off. How would you save the local community by putting the caps back, using only a length of rope and brainpower?

You are given three tyres and two planks of wood. Using just these, could you lead your colleagues through a minefield without setting foot on the ground?

These are just a few of the challenges contained within the new team-building courses now available from D&S Events, the events management division of fleet driver training company,Drive & Survive (Plate 1).

For many people, team building conjures up an image of mud, sweat and tears ... all bulging biceps and outward-bound bravado. The accent is usually on the physical rather than the cerebral. Not so in this case.

Despite the fact that the D&S Events team-building product is the brainchild of a former Commando, the emphasis is very much on mental dexterity. Naturally, there are some mechanical tasks to perform but these have been deliberately designed to prevent female participants being at a disadvantage in relation to their male colleagues.

Those involved can elect to have their individual or collective performance assessed by qualified experts.

Perhaps surprisingly for a company whose core business is fleet driver training, there need not be any driving involved. In fact, most of the activities take place on foot, in and around the forest at the heart of the TRL complex at Crowthorne in Berkshire, where D&S Events has its headquarters.

Conference rooms are also available and all levels of catering can be offered. As a result, many companies are opting for a combination of a half-day team-building exercise, with some form of meeting or seminar during the other half.

Further information about team building as well as the many other driving-related activities run by D&S Events can be obtained on tel: 01344 751177 or fax: 01344 751188.
