Ashridge, one of Europe's leading business schools, has launched a set of 40 new multimedia learning guides which introduce managers to a range of business and management skills. They use the latest multimedia technologies to enable managers to work at their own pace, at times that suit them.
The guides are divided into four broad learning areas skills and competences; working with and developing others; strategy and finance; and marketing and operations management. Each topic is arranged in three sections. "Theory" offers a ten- to 12-page overview of recent management thinking in the chosen area written by Ashridge specialists. "Reality" features the best learning resources, such as books videos and articles recommended by Ashridge specialists, plus help on deciding where to start especially if time is short. "Action" is a list of development activities that help put skills into practice at work.
Ashridge launched its first learning guides on CD-ROM last year. Andrew Ettinger, director of Learning Resources, commented: "The great success of our first CD-ROM encouraged us to develop further the learning guides. There really is a growing demand especially from companies which are actively supporting lifelong learning, whether through corporate learning centres or at the desktop for this type of material which allows self-managed development and enables training to be extended throughout an organization". The guides are now available on standalone or networked CD or can be put across an intranet in HTML format.
