Managing for success in the twenty-first century

Keywords: Management development, Human resource management, Knowledge management, Conferences

What will be the key management issues of the twenty-first century and how will managers respond to the needs of their organizations and meet the challenges they face?

To address these issues, event organizer Careers in Industry (CII) is working with the Institute of Management (IM) to launch a major new conference and exhibition entitled Management Development and Information (MDI). Aimed at managers, including HR professionals, the event will take place from 7-8 June 2000, at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London.

Management development and information will provide senior decision makers with information and services relevant to the development of organizations through the effective management of both human- and knowledge-based resources.

The conference will tackle the most pertinent and topical issues for executives, broadly covering the key themes of managing people, information, knowledge, tools and techniques. It will bring together leading academics and management gurus with speakers from business and industry to address the theory and practice of good management. Through lectures, workshops, case studies and panel discussions, executives will have the opportunity to hear about and discuss latest trends as well as share the best of tried and tested successes.

The exhibition will consist of companies exhibiting a wide range of products and services including knowledge and information management, recruitment, training, appraisal, assessment, counselling, distance learning, computerized HR systems, employment agencies, health and safety and HR intranets.

Mel Stride, managing director of CII, said: "MDI fills a major gap in the market - at present, there is no show that targets the full range of senior managers and is dedicated to the art of managing people and knowledge. Our link with the Institute of Management and their 84,000 members will play a significant role in delivering a high volume of senior decision makers."

Christine Hayhurst, director of public affairs at the Institute of Management, commented: "The Institute of Management is delighted to be working with CII on this major new conference and exhibition. We are committed to promoting professional management and believe this is an excellent opportunity to share the latest in management knowledge, thinking and good practice."
