Shanghai bank managers trained in western practice
Some 6,000 junior and middle managers at the Bank of Communications in Shanghai are being trained in western banking practice, localized for the Chinese market.
The employees are receiving some 200 hours of learning in key topics such as client management and risk assessment, delivered through CD-Roms, text-based materials and seminars.
The programme, by Worldwide Learning, a subsidiary of the News Corporation,is the bank's first experience of using a multimedia approach to training for large numbers of employees.
Worldwide Learning, which has a rapidly expanding office in Beijing, recently contracted to provide China's ministry of labour and social services with middle-management training for small and medium-size firms across China.
The company has also provided face-to-face training for senior management at two of China's largest banks – the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Agricultural Bank of China, both in Beijing – and at a leading Chinese insurance company, China-Pacific Insurance, in Shanghai.
