Philips trains managers to carry out ethical audits

Philips Electronics has trained more than 500 managers to carry out basic ethical-supplier audits.

The training sessions, which typically last two days and are part of the“core curriculum” of staff learning, cover worker interviews,facility tours and factory managers’ attitudes to leadership, quality and sustainability. The programme is run in all Philips’ operations and involves managers of parts of the business.

Sustainability has also now been introduced into an existing Philips training module on supply-chain management, which around 1,600 employees took last year. Philips also runs sustainability workshops for suppliers. Around 350 have so far taken part. The workshops emphasize Philips’ requirement that suppliers observe basic environmental and workplace standards.
