A Bloomberg News training scheme for reporters across the globe has been recognized after the network was named winner of the Broadcast National Training Award (NTA).

The training initiative ensures that isolated correspondents in places like Kazakhstan and outlying Russian offices are as fluent in new technology and house style as reporters in London or New York.

Peter Block, executive director at the Broadcast Training and Skills Regulator (BTSR) – which launched the Broadcast NTA alongside Skillset and Ofcom, in partnership with UK Skills – said: “Bloomberg News has learning and development embedded at the heart of everything it does. It is inspirational to see how learning and development can make a real difference.”

Collecting the award, Bloomberg global-news trainer Leah Harrison-Singer said the company had invested more in new technology over the last six months than in the previous five years. It allowed the business to quickly and accurately monitor share movements and “track trading rumors”.

The judges praised the network for implementing the advanced technology, together with running associated training courses, in its 135 worldwide bureaux with speed and efficiency, and without news-coverage standards slipping.
