Mace overcomes training challenge

Mace Group, a global consultancy and construction firm, has introduced a new knowledge-management system to help it to offer accessible and flexible development opportunities to its employees.
Trina Sollis, head of learning and development, said: “As a global company, providing classroom training to almost 3,000 staff members and centralizing it at our head office was proving to be a big challenge. The logistics and volume of training needed in a classroom format made our goal almost impossible to achieve. Although the nuts and bolts behind the learning-management system are extensive and sophisticated, to the layman it is easy to use and intuitive. The system we have chosen, the NetDimensions Enterprise Knowledge Platform (EKP), does not turn users off by being too complex on the surface.”
Apart from training, the learning-management system will also be used as a knowledge center for uploading guides and manuals, news items and presentations by senior executives.
Trina Sollis explained: “EKP ensures that we can continue to offer accessible and flexible development opportunities to our employees. The cost of travel and venue-rental expenses should not prevent them from taking advantage of development opportunities.”
Mace Group employs 2,900 people and operates across 36 countries. The group’s core business is project and construction management, but its services span the entire property life cycle, including construction management, contracting, cost consultancy, development management, safety and health consultancy, facilities management, management consultancy and pre-construction engineering.
On National Learning at Work Day, Mace used its learning-management system to deliver a series of bespoke e-learning courses, including “back to basics”training and processes training.
