A composite-pipeline system manufacturer has selected a learning-management system to help it to distribute and standardize training throughout its USA and Canadian workforce.

Flexpipe Systems Inc. will use the LearnCenter platform to provide standardized training for health and safety compliance regulations, manufacturing procedures, personal growth and new-hire orientation. Employees throughout Canada and the USA will have easy access to required web based courses as well as the ability to manage their own career success.

“We are currently conducting 200 instructor-led training (ILT) courses, which generate a large amount of paperwork,” said Rahul Soni, Flexpipe Systems training co-ordinator. “With the current state of the economy, hiring permanent administrative help was not a feasible alternative. Now we can convert roughly 75 percent of these courses into online courseware, thus eliminating most of the paperwork and reducing a considerable amount of training-related costs, giving us the ability to focus more time on creating new courses. The system will have an immediate impact on our bottom line and show an immediate return on investment.

“We are a fast-growing company and the system is scalable, flexible and configurable. It is very user friendly, with great tools, and works well with our innovative culture,” concluded Rahul Soni.

Calgary-based Flexpipe Systems manufactures a proprietary non-metallic,corrosion-resistant pipeline, which it markets primarily to oil and natural gas producers in Canada and the USA.

Meanwhile, First Minnetonka City Bank has selected the LearnCenter platform to provide standardized compliance training to all employees.

“We needed a solution that would provide a curriculum for all of our staff, providing a basis for our managers and supervisors to build off and focus more on the empirical practices. Our goal is to turn this into a true employee-development plan, offering them a range of courses that help them to grow regardless of their current specific skill set,” said Linda Carlson, the bank’s marketing officer.

“We needed a learning-management system that would allow us to track our employees’ achievements and hold each individual accountable. With the system we have chosen, we see the ability for more interaction even though it is online, and we feel this is important to help individual people to learn.”

In a third development, animal-health company Merial has chosen Learn.com to deliver product and sales training.

A joint venture between Merck & Co and sanofi-aventis, Merial will use the platform to host, manage and track most learning events, both online and classroom-based.

“Our training content and methods continue to evolve and we needed a system that is flexible and supports new methods,” said Debi Jackson,Merial sales-training manager at Merial. “We wanted the ability to manage our own system and be self- sufficient so that we can quickly get mission-critical training into the hands of the sales force.”

Merial employs approximately 5,400 people and operates in more than 150 countries.
