First Bank of Nigeria trains action-learning coaches

First Bank of Nigeria has trained 28 employees as action-learning coaches,able to lead problem-solving sessions and so help the bank to improve quality,cut costs, create new products and services and change the organizational culture.
The bank worked with the World Institute of Action Learning (WIAL) and its UK arm, Corporate Learning Consultants.
The bank believes that its performance is largely determined by the quality of its people. In 2010 it trained more than 7,500 employees, representing more than 98 percent of its workforce.
Eric Sandelands, of Corporate Learning Consultants UK, was closely involved in training the action-learning coaches. He commented: “Action learning involves a small group working on real problems, taking action and learning while doing so.
“It is considered to be a powerful management tool that creates dynamic opportunities for individuals, teams, leaders and organizations to adapt, learn and innovate to meet changing times.”
