Gatwick airport is to provide language training to its customer-service staff, security officers, first-aid providers and fire fighters.

The airport has signed a learning agreement setting up a joint venture with trade union Unite to deliver the training, which will employ the interactive Rosetta Stone method.

Tina Oakley, Gatwick airport human-resource director, said: “Our priority is to deliver the best end-to-end passenger experience through the airport and make Gatwick London’s airport of choice. Passengers will judge their experience of Gatwick not only on the quality of the airport facilities but also on the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff. That is why we are pleased to partner Rosetta Stone to encourage language learning among our staff.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of Gatwick’s journey toward developing its multilingual workforce to better serve its global customers,”said Judy Verses, president for global institutional business at Rosetta Stone.“We will work closely with Gatwick to ensure a successful roll-out and adoption of the solution, as a true partner should.”
