About International Journal of Experience Research

The International Journal of Experience Research (IJER) is the dedicated interdisciplinary journal for advancing the scientific understanding of experiences. Experiences are a fundamental dimension of human life and have become an increasingly important focus of research across the social sciences, management, design, technology, healthcare, education, and the arts. Yet, despite this growing interest, experience research remains fragmented across disciplinary boundaries. As the official journal of the Experience Research Society (EXPRESSO), IJER provides an international forum that brings together these diverse perspectives to build a cumulative, interdisciplinary body of knowledge on experiences.

Aims and scope

IJER publishes high-quality theoretical, empirical, conceptual, methodological, and review papers that advance the understanding, design, management, measurement, and impact of experiences. The journal welcomes both basic and applied research employing qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, experimental, computational, and design-based approaches. 

Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, psychology and cognitive science; business and management; organisational behaviour and human resources; marketing and consumer behaviour; service management; design; human-computer interaction; information systems; engineering and technology; data science and artificial intelligence; education; leisure, tourism, hospitality, events, and sports management; healthcare; architecture and the built environment; geography and place studies; communication and media studies; the arts, creative practice, and aesthetics; cultural and heritage studies; sustainability and environmental studies; public policy and administration; and related fields. 

The journal serves as the interdisciplinary home for experience research and welcomes studies from diverse disciplinary perspectives. By providing a shared platform for scholars working across disciplinary boundaries, IJER advances theory, fosters methodological innovation, and generates practical insights that deepen our understanding of experiences and their significance for individuals, organisations, and society. Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, promote scientific excellence, and publish research that advances the understanding of experiences while contributing to human wellbeing and societal impact.
