Last June, when the U.S. Census Bureau released dismal statistics on the dropout rate in our high schools, then Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education Diane Ravitch responded: “[It's a] warning signal to all of us… that we have a lot of work to do to improve the quality of American education. We know what works, and we don't do it.”
