PRACTITIONERS′ CORNER : Tailoring Education and Training to Labour Market Requirements

Education and training structures in Britain and France have been inadequate to meet the changing labour market demands placed on them in recent years. In France, relatively early reform, the introduction of more vocationally relevant material into the school curriculum and the imposition of training obligations on employers differ markedly from the recent adoption of a more vocationally relevant curriculum in British schools and the establishment of a voluntary, business‐led and decentralised industrial training system. Some of the actual and potential strengths and weaknesses of these approaches are discussed.
