Useful general links
For readers who either supervise research students, or are researchers, the Australian Digital Thesis Library (ADTL) http://adt.caul.edu.au/ is a highly useful resource. The home page of the ADTL web site states the following which should explain its value: The aim of the ADT program is to establish a distributed database of digital versions of theses produced by the postgraduate research students at Australian universities. The theses will be available worldwide via the web. The ideal behind the program is to provide access to, and promote Australian research to the international community (accessed January 30, 2008).
This library contains hundreds of doctoral theses; it is of immense value in providing examples of PhDs, DBAs and DPMs theses, etc. from across a wide range of disciplines, many highly relevant to the PM discipline.
Another useful organisation for those engaged in doctorates is The European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM). This organisation has created a web site that is intended to promote the European job market for business academic positions: see URL www.eiasm.org/r/about-eiasm. One section of their web site is devoted to job candidates, they will have to enter their names and profiles (including CVs, areas of expertise, papers) where they can make themselves available for consideration for educational institutions. Another section is for the institutions where they will indicate the assistant professorship positions (one or more) that they plan to open (field, starting date, possibly information about the contract, e.g. salary). Demands and applications can be in any area of the business academic community. EIASM holds a range of events including doctoral symposia and meetings.
Conferences for 2011
The happy projects’11 conference: “PROJECTS & CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPOSNIBILITY ” will take place in Vienna from May 12-13, 2011. This conference is Austria’s largest international conference on project management and offers a huge variety of presentations, panel discussions and different streams for practitioners as well as students and academics. One part of the happy projects’11 conference is the international student paper award for master and PhD students. EURAM 2011 will be held June 1-4 in the beautiful medieval city of Tallinn,Estonia. The International Research Network on Organizing by Projects (IRNOP) holds its research conferences on odd years and the next one will be held in Montreal Quebec from June 19-22, 2011 www.irnop2011.uqam.ca/. This organisation would be of great interest to PM researchers and their web site is www.irnop.org/. The site provides links to other research organisations and forthcoming conferences of interest to PM academics and practitioners. Their web site lists the links to these conferences with dates for abstracts, submissions, etc.
The ‘Making Projects Critical’ 6th International workshop on critical studies of project-based work, project management and the projectification of society and life at large will be held in January 21 and 22,2011, Bristol, UK. A key concern of this workshop is to employ critical perspectives to analyse and evaluate the practice of project management and decision making as evidenced in the approval, governance and control of project work and project workers. The International Project Management Association (IPMA) is the world’s oldest project management organisation. It is an international network of national project management societies and their web link is www.ipma.ch/Pages/default.aspx. The advantage of keeping abreast with this web site is that it links to a range of PM associations www.ipma.ch/membership/Pages/default.aspx)so link through them to find out more about their conferences and events.
The UK Association for Project Management is mounting several national events during 2011. Full details are at available at: www.apm.org.uk/awards.aspand www.apm.org.uk/conference.asp,respectively.
Another associated group is the Australian Institute of Project Management(AIPM) that has an annual conference and also jointly offers one with the PMI Australian chapters. The AIPM web link is www.aipm.com.au/html/default.cfm

The CIB is an construction-based research community organisation that is centred in Europe and based in The Netherlands; with global reach and support,it is composed of construction practitioners and academics. They have many conferences and meeting of their specialised working commissions, many of interest to PM readers of this journal the home page URL is www.cibworld.nl/website/

The PMI have formed the Global Accreditation Centre (GAC) that has the aim of accrediting PM courses/programs of study (mainly at the Masters degree level as well as Doctoral level) the URL link to the GAC is www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment/Pages/GAC-Academic-Network.aspx
The other group is PMUni URL www.pmuni.net/. PMUni is an international network of universities, education and research institutions as well as process and project-oriented companies with the overall objective to promote professional education and research in process and project management. They have held a number of workshops, conferences and meetings where the participants meet to exchange experience in research and education.

The IPMA Research Awards to honour excellence in project management research
The IPMA Research Awards celebrates several categories of distinguished prizes. The IPMA Young Researcher Award honours young researcher. The IPMA Research Award honours established project management researchers. It is awarded to an individual researcher or a research team. In addition to the award winners, the jury also honours further outstanding research contributions in these two categories with the prize: IPMA Outstanding Research Contributions.
Call for IPMA Research Awards 2011
IPMA calls for applications for 2010 in the categories IPMA Young Researcher and IPMA Research Award. Applications may come from academia, other research institutions or industry. They may come from disciplines other than project management but must contribute to the development of project, program management, project-oriented companies or any element named in the International Competence Baseline. The candidates apply with a research project. The research project must have had at least a minimum duration of one year and must be completed, when the application is handed in.
