Purpose

This study aims to analyse the relationship between empowering leadership and innovative behaviour and the mediating effects of employee engagement and technological alignment.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was conducted amongst a sample of Spanish employees, and hypotheses were tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling.

Findings

There was a significant relationship between empowering leadership and innovative behaviour. Employee engagement and technological alignment had a partial mediating effect.

Originality/value

Empowering leadership influences innovative behaviour through employee engagement and technology-related behaviour. Empowering leadership can promote environments where employees feel more motivated to explore and adopt new technologies, enhancing their willingness to innovate.
