This report explores the impact the year 2000 (Y2K) problem will have on organisations around the globe. It is prepared in such a way that an organisation should be able to create a step‐by‐step Y2K action plan to address its own issues, covering the five basic phases of assessment (including the tools available to carry out an audit), design of a strategy (are we going to fix, replace or outsource?), change implementation (including the important issue of staff training), testing (in advance, of course!) and integration. The legal issues, as they relate to both customers and suppliers ‐ and most organisations are both ‐ are covered and appendices include a guide to products and services, further printed and online reference points and some case studies. Any organisation that relies heavily on information systems and technology must have a Y2K plan. This report can help you:
understand the impact on your organisation;
manage a Y2K project;
get funding to help solve the problem;
manage end user relationships; and
achieve compliance!
Remember, the issue is getting awfully close ‐ if you are not planning your Y2K strategy, it’s almost too late.
