Fire!

As I drove to work this morning, a car two vehicles in front of me pulled over and literally burst into flames. Luckily, a driver going the other way immediately stopped and leapt out with a fire extinguisher. A real disaster was averted. I did not have a fire extinguisher in my car but I will! The point of the incident is that it reminded me of how easy it is and how little it often costs to minimise certain risks. The same is true within organisations. Risk management is important ­ and should operate at a number of levels. At least deal with the obvious and simple risks ­ identify the "fire extinguishers" that can be provided cheaply!
