Small is beautiful
Today I have eaten a three course lunch. This is very rare for me and was only because I was taking my mother out. I mention this not to show what a dutiful son I am, but to highlight the cost of the meal. The basic three-course meal, which was all of high quality, was £5 per head. Whilst eating, I couldn't help but wonder how with all the costs involved they could turn a profit. Of course, this was a small business, in a small town where expenses are lower. There were no unnecessary extravagances, though the room was neat and tidy. Being a very small business, it was run by the proprietors who put in a lot of investment in terms of their time and energy. It brings home the point about what can be achieved when the workforce is motivated and committed.
