Performance and Quality Measurement in Government : Issues and Experiences

Edited by Arie HalachmiChatelaine Press$27.95

Keywords Government departments, Performance measurement

This book represents a long-term and on-going effort by Professor Halachmi to educate users and producers of performance measures (including through the pages of WorkStudy). The chapters are drawn from papers presented at three recent conferences: The Quebec Conference of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences(IIAS), the Philadelphia Conference on the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the Public Administration Research Conference in Athens, Georgia. Professor Halachmi has for some time been a visiting professor at the University of Twente in The Netherlands and the book reflects this by being organised into three parts :

  • 1.

    Dutch Concepts and Applications;

  • 2.

    American Perspectives;

  • 3.

    International Experiences.

The book is probably of most interest to academics and students, but does have some important lessons for those responsible for delivering public services, and for shaping the policies by which they are delivered and measured!
