Edited by John C. DernbachEnvironmental Law Institute20021-58576-036-6
In September 2002, in Johannesburg, the world's nations gathered at the World Summit on Sustainable Development to assess efforts that have been made in the previous decade, and to recommend future actions. Ten years after the Earth Summit, is the USA moving toward sustainable development or away from it? What should the USA do next, particularly in the next five to ten years, to further sustainable development? These are two main questions addressed in this book. Some three dozen experts from around the USA have contributed. Chapters cover issues such as production and consumption of materials and energy, population, natural resources, waste and toxic chemicals, transportation, education, housing, health care, poverty, international trade, and foreign assistance.
