Combining forces: Fostering sustainability collaboration between the city of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia Available to Purchase

Alison Munro is an Associate Director for Teaching, Learning and Research at the UBC Sustainability Initiative. Alison has worked on sustainability at UBC for 15 years, managing projects and programs at the UBC Sustainability Initiative, the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability, the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability and the Sustainable Development Research Institute. She holds a Master of Public Administration from Dalhousie University.

Jean Marcus is an Associate Director of Teaching, Learning & Research with the UBC Sustainability Initiative and has been actively advancing sustainability education across campus since 2008. Jean is also a Scientist in Residence with the Vancouver School Board, and has taught various ecology and conservation biology courses. Jean holds a PhD from the University of Victoria in marine ecology.

Katie Dolling is a Program Manager at the UBC Sustainability Initiative, where she is responsible for managing student internship programs, including the Greenest City Scholars program. Before arriving in Canada, Katie worked for eight years in policy and program management at the Department of Sustainability and Environment in Victoria, Australia. She holds a Master of Environment, Governance, Policy & Communications from the University of Melbourne.

John Robinson is an Associate Provost, Sustainability, responsible for leading the integration of academic and operational sustainability on the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus. He is also a professor with UBC’s Institute for Resources, Environment & Sustainability, and the Department of Geography. Dr Robinson’s own research focuses on the intersection of climate change mitigation, adaptation and sustainability; the use of visualization, modeling and citizen engagement to explore sustainable futures; sustainable buildings and urban design; creating partnerships for sustainability with noon-academic partners; and, generally, the intersection of sustainability, social and technological change, behavior change and community engagement processes.

Jennifer Wahl is a Sustainability Specialist at the City of Vancouver. She manages diverse projects related to implementation of the Greenest City Action Plan, which aims to position Vancouver as the Greenest City in the world by 2020. Jennifer also manages the Greenest City Scholar Program in partnership with UBC, serving as a project manager, facilitator and coach for students and City staff mentors. Prior to joining the City in 2007, Jennifer developed the Environmental Management System Program at the Vancouver Aquarium. She holds a degree in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University and is a certified Project Management Professional.
