Environmental awareness raising through universities – city authorities’ cooperation Available to Purchase

Dr Ksenia D. Shelest has a PhD in Economic, Social and Political Geography from St. Petersburg State University (2007) and an MSc in Environmental Management and Policy from the University of Amsterdam (2003). She was granted MATRA and INTAS personal scholarships for her MSc study in The Netherlands and PhD research visits to European universities in Finland, Sweden and Italy. Since 1999 she coordinates activities of the Baltic University Programme (Uppsala University, Sweden) at St. Petersburg State University, an educational network in the field of sustainable development and environmental science in the north-west region of Russia. In 2006-2009, Shelest was employed as a civil servant at the Environmental Committee, City of St. Petersburg. Presently, she is employed at the Department of Economic and Social Geography, Institute of Earth Sciences, and at the Division of Baltic and Arctic projects at St. Petersburg State University. She is the author of more than 25 publications in Russian and English.

Dr Victor V. Ionov is an Associate Professor at the Department of Oceanology, Institute of Earth Sciences, and Head of the Division of Baltic and Arctic projects at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU). He has a PhD in the area of oceanology (1979). In 1984, he was an Exchange Researcher at the Department of Oceanography, Florida State University, Tallahassee, USA. He is a Director of the National North-West Russian Center of the Baltic University Programme since 1993. Also, Ionov was a Director of the Swedish–Russian initiative – the “Phoenix Learning Center” – at SPbSU since 1999. He is a Coordinator and Lecturer of the Russian-German Master program for Polar and Marine Sciences (POMOR) since 2002. In 1989-2015, Ionov participated in several international Antarctic expeditions on the research vessels of Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute. Ionov was a team leader for many international research projects aimed at education for sustainable development. He is the author of more than 100 publications in Russian and English.

Leonid Y. Tikhomirov obtained his MSc from the Department of Oceanology at St. Petersburg State University. Since 1991, he is working at the Division of Baltic and Arctic projects, as a member of the science group in the North-West Russian centre of the Baltic University Programme, as well as a coordinator and a teacher of courses in the field of environmental science and the Baltic Sea environment. Since 2009, he is an acting coordinator of the Youth Environmental Volunteers Movement and a head of the tuition team at St. Petersburg State University. He is the author of creative publications, documentary films and songs about the Baltic Sea.
