Understanding sustainability as a cyclical process: insights from social innovation and the adaptive cycle

Alexa M. Dare is an Associate Professor of Communication and Media at the University of Portland and the Director of the Social Justice program. She is a coeditor of the book, Communicating in the Anthropocene: Intimate Relations and recently coedited a special issue of the Journal of Ecohumanism focused on human, plant and nonhuman mothering.

Ruth Dittrich is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Portland’s Pamplin School of Business. She obtained her PhD at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Ruth holds a MSc in economic policy from the University of Birmingham, UK and a BA in economics, politics and sociology from the University of Erfurt, Germany.

Macey Schondel graduated from the University of Portland in 2021 with a degree in Environmental Ethics and Policy. She currently works for the nonprofit IES Abroad at their Chicago-based headquarters.

Molly Lowney graduated from the University of Portland in 2021 with a degree in Environmental Ethics and Policy. She currently works as an environmental educator for the Catalina Environmental Leadership Program on Santa Catalina Island, California.

Dr Gregory Hill is a Professor of Environmental Studies and of Mathematics at the University of Portland. For 15 years, he was President of a Social Science research and development NGO, the Institute for Culture and Ecology. Currently, he is an International Scholar and co-PI for the Rebuilding First Nations Governance Project in Canada.
