The project BEIDS is co-organising a specialist event that will look at sustainability indicators in the Baltic Sea region. Titled “SIID 2003”,the event will be held from 9-11 October in the city of Vilnius, Lithuania. It will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the recent work on theoretical aspects and the practice of sustainable development implementation.
The aim of the conference is to encourage and facilitate the interdisciplinary communication amongst scientists, engineers, economists,sociologists and professionals working in sustainable development and related fields. Emphasis will be given to those areas that will most benefit from the application of scientific methods for sustainable development, including sustainability indicators on various levels as well as intellectual,informational and economic tools for decisions in the sustainable development policy.

Sardinia 2003 – Ninth International Waste Management and Landfill Symposium

The Symposium will last five days and will include the following topics:

waste treatment prior to landfilling;
sanitary landfilling;
special waste landfilling;
aftercare and reuse;
remediation of old landfills; and

3rd International Wildlife Management Congress
Christchurch, New Zealand1-5 December 2003
The Wildlife Society, a wildlife science and educational association based in the USA, co-hosts these Congresses every few years. Each Congress is located in a different part of the world and is run jointly with one or more local partners; the first two Congresses were held in Costa Rica (1993) and Hungary(1999).
The principal co-hosts for this third Congress are Manaaki Whenua/Landcare Research (New Zealand) and the Australasian Wildlife Management Society, in conjunction with with Ngai Tahu (Maori tribe of New Zealand’s South Island), and the New Zealand Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai. This will be the first time a wildlife management meeting of this magnitude has been held in the Southern Hemisphere.
