How long will it be before someone with the power to do something about it realises that many, if not most, academic libraries as they are presently organised are a waste of money, space and staff? Will it be before academic librarians themselves realise that they have sewn the seeds of their own destruction, or is there time for them to sort out the mess they have made of the whole process of higher education?
