Humanities Collection (Vol. 1 No. 1)

A new quarterly journal focussing on collections – contents, use, cataloguing, accessing – and covering not just academic collections but those of public and special libraries too. While the traditional humanities are covered, the range extends fairly widely and includes such new areas as feminism, gay and lesbian studies, film and media studies. The catholic range of the journal can be gauged from the interesting short article by Sarah Forbes on the Edward Clark Collection on Printing and Typography held at Napier University, Edinburgh, through to the densely written and specialised article on “Bibliography of Basque linguistics and literature resources”, by Martha Zarate. In conclusion, this is a serious academic journal for specialists, rather American in style and content and a bit of a “curate’s egg” – judging by the first issue. We shall see if it really does fill a perceived niche in an overcrowded market.
