Although seeming somewhat arcane to British readers, given the diaspora of the Slav peoples in the twentieth century, particularly to North America, this well produced and comprehensive survey of the Slavic and East European holdings residing in North American libraries will have particular appeal and relevance to American LIS professionals and researchers. A good brisk introduction by the editors leads into the main body – arranged by library and covering some 85 institutions. The range is good, from Arizona State University through to the Hoover Institution and the University of Ottawa. There are good, clear entries for each library with concise helpful descriptions of holdings, including any special collections of note (e.g. the “Solidarnosc” collection held in the University of Toronto). A good Geographical Index enhances the usefulness of this reference work. In summary, a well written and produced reference tool, which will prove helpful for specialist librarians, researchers and archivists, particularly those in North America.
