I HAVE IT on good authority that publishers think librarians are an odd lot. The general opinion among librarians is that publishers are a mysterious crowd, so I am saying straightaway that some of my best friends are publishers. Superficially, they have moved into the 1970's with their management courses, telex, computers and standard book numbers, but their hearts are in an earlier era.
