The economic recession in university libraries in Nigeria has resulted in acute frustration for research students and academia. In the Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan, it has resulted in the decline of book acquisition from 17,000 volumes in the 1976/77 session to 1,770 volumes in the 1989/90 session. The acquisition of journals(which are the primary research materials) have not been spared either, with current journal acquisition having been reduced from 3,626 titles in the 1982/83 session to 317 titles in the 1988/89 session.
