Most commercial organisations have the hardware and software to gather and process as much, if not more, information than they can use. If the amount of information is not controlled it can lead to increases in its cost. The nature of the cost of information is considered and a model proposed which illustrates the way in which data can be used intensively, comprising a marketing, production and financial sector. The more realistic the components of the total model, the better the job it will be able to do at both the tactical and strategic level.
