Meet our editors

Dr. Shaouli Shahid
is based at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies, Curtin University. Dr. Shahid is a cross-disciplinary researcher and educator with special interests in Indigenous health and wellbeing, health services research, public health, social and cultural determinants of health, health promotion, holistic approaches to health and wellbeing and identity.

Dr. Shahid has a keen interest in conducting research and evaluation in community settings, in developing and running public health programmes at the community level, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and promoting bottom-up approaches and applying participatory action research in the community program settings.

She is an excellent cross-cultural communicator and has the skills and the ability to interact empathically with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Shahid has a very strong background in research and has published extensively in the area of cancer, palliative care and other health services research areas.
Dr. Kavita Batra, Ph.D., MPH, BDS, FRSPH
, is a senior medical research biostatistician with the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She provides statistical and research training to faculty, residents, fellows, and medical students, collaborating to perform interdisciplinary research.

Dr. Batra's research interests include maternal and child health, the impact of COVID-19 on mental health, understanding social determinants of health, vaccine hesitancy, clinical research, and evidence synthesis (particularly systematic reviews and meta-analyses).
Dr. Batra has published multiple peer-reviewed articles to investigate the far-ranging impact of COVID-19 among diverse groups. Her work received several mentions in the media and by researchers at a global level. One of her meta-analytical pieces of evidence was also utilised by the European Union to synthesise evidence related to mental health and resilience amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
