Tecnomatix receives orders worth $1 million from Fiat Group

Tecnomatix Technologies Ltd has secured repeat orders from the Fiat Group of Italy totalling approximately $1 million (US dollars). This success, following announcements earlier this year of investments by two other leading European motor manufacturers, Renault and PSA Peugeot Citroen, underlines the growing importance of computer-aided production engineering (CAPE) tools within this sector.

The Fiat order covers a variety of ROBCAD software applications such as ROBCAD/Spot, ROBCAD/Man,ROBCAD/Line and ROBCAD/OLP, for automotive spotwelding and human task processes. Fiat plans to install these new software applications at various divisions including Fiat Auto and Comau in Italy, USA and Germany. In addition to the initial orders, Tecnomatix will be providing on-going support and maintenance services for these installations.

In July PSA Peugeot Citroen confirmed an order worth approximately one million dollars, placed through Computervision, to use Tecnomatix Dynamo software as a platform tool for use in its "digital mock-up" (DMU) project. This order marks the first phase of the project with the objective to broadly deploy Dynamo throughout the PSA Peugeot Citroen organization. It is anticipated that additional phases of the project will generate follow-on orders and support services worth potentially the same amount on an annual basis through the year 2000.

Dynamo is being integrated within PSA Peugeot Citroen's open CAD/CAM environment for use in simulations and studies of assembly, packaging, process planning, serviceability and maintenance operations. This initial order is the largest ever so far placed for Dynamo software.

These orders, including a substantial follow-on order from Renault announced in December, for several software licenses of Dynamo and ROBCAD products, come as a result of a decision by the Tecnomatix board to focus on strategic selling in Europe following successful, large-scale implementations of Tecnomatix' CAPE products at major industrial corporations in the USA and Japan.
