For environments with heavier particulates, Sankyo offers the SR8437DP and SR8438DP dust-proof SCARAs. These versions incorporate special seals and covers, Z-axis bellows, and light positive air pressure to keep the particulates out of the interior of the robot arm. One of the few truly dust-proof robots available today, these robot systems meet the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) index of protection rating of IP5x. Additionally, Sankyo's dust-proof systems have received approval from Underwriters Laboratories under UL-1740 and also meet the Robotics Industries Association ANSI/RIA R15.06 Robot Safety Standard and the European Safety Standard for Industrial Robots EN 775/ISO 10218.
Sankyo's dust-proof SR8438DP SCARA
Ideal for brake pad assembly, powdered metal press unload, and other dirty applications, the affordable dust-proof SCARAs offer an excellent solution to high speed small parts assembly and material handling in a dirty environment. The SR8437DP SCARA has a reach of 800mm and a payload of 10kg and the SR8438DP has a reach of 550mm and a payload of 5kg. Both SCARAs have excellent repeatability and fast application cycle times. With high-resolution absolute encoders, no homing is required after startup or after an e-stop situation. Sankyo's own brushless, reliable AC servo motors allow for easy maintenance and service.
Both dust-proof SCARAs are controlled by the Sankyo multitasking SC3000 Robot Controller and intelligent touch screen pendant. Key features of the SC3000 controller include a 32-bit MC68020 microprocessor operating at 24Mhz (a MC68040 is optional), a Risc processor for enhanced servo control, 1MB of battery backed SRAM, and 512KB of flash memory. The SC3000 controller also contains a high speed ArcNet port for communications with the touch screen pendant, an RS232 port for communications with the PC-based application development software, and a second RS232 and ArcNet ports for general use. Two 25-pin D-shell connectors, each having eight digital inputs and four digital outputs, with a safety circuit interface are standard. A total of up to 384 digital I/O points may be added. The SC3000 is about the size of a VCR and can be table or rack mounted.
The dust-proof SCARAs utilize Sankyo's intelligent and user-friendly LCD touch screen pendant. It includes a dedicated MC68000 processor and 640KB SRAM with 512KB of flash memory. It also has a removable and hot-pluggable EPO switch and a large liquid crystal display with a touch screen interface. With these many exciting features, Sankyo has set a new standard for hand-held control and point teaching of robotic systems.
Application programs for Sankyo's robotic systems are programmed in SSL/E, Sankyo's structured language/enhanced. SSL/E is a powerful motion control language used for single or multiple robots. SSL/E also allows for real-time multitasking with up to 13 tasks and has excellent 3-D linear and circular interpolation for path-critical applications, a high-speed jump-move command for optimized pick and place, flexible digital I/O control with real-time sensor-guarded motions, easy-to-use palletizing commands, and an integrated communications protocol for application control and interfacing to host computers. Other features include Sankyo's new family of Windows-based robot software for application development.
A variety of other options, versions, and features for Sankyo's dust-proof (and other) SCARAs have been developed over the years and Sankyo is pleased to make these available as conditions require, including longer Z-heads, special cabling options, and custom paint colors to match specific system designs.
