Engine de-burring

Keywords Deburring,Robotics, Robots

Italian company, CABI main supplier of aluminum components for the FIAT group has selected a Stäubli robot for their de-burring of car engines (see Plate 5).

A Stäubli RX170 was chosen for the job due to it's 6 axis dexterity, meaning it can reach all burrs located on three sides of the engine and even in some cavities.

The robot uses Stäubli's V_TRAJSIG self-correction software, allowing the robot to follow very precise and smooth trajectories, with a visual mimic of the patterns completed.

The robot starts the de-burring operation after each part is manually positioned on a turntable with a 180 degree rotation facility.

On the start cycle signal, the robot machines the path in three dimensions, delivering a high quality and accurate finish.

The thickness of the burrs is about 0.5mm, the height approximately 2mm with a cycle time of 2.5 minutes. Per engine block.
