Neos Robotics and Specma Automation announced today that they have won a 65M SEK order from Hydro Automotive to design and build five robot systems for machining of aluminium components for the automotive industry.

The Machine Tool robots sold will be placed in Hydros' premises in Rausfoss,Norway and Holland, MI, USA. "We decided to use Tricept in production, primarily because of the great flexibility and modularity that this concept offers", says Per Olav Drengsrud, Project and Process Manager at Hydro Automotive Structures. "Trends within the automotive industry are characterized by shorter and shorter life cycles, which includes fast changes in design, parameters for which the Tricept is out-performing compared to the alternatives", continues Drengsrud. He explains, "Alternatives to Tricept are large, dedicated machines that are often difficult and expensive to adapt to changes required by production. Such machines are therefore less cost effective".

Hydro Automotive Structures is the car industry's leading supplier of extrusion-based applications within crash management, body structures and subframes. Among their customers are companies such as BMW, AUDI and Volvo.
