New high-speed six axes robot provides increased flexibility for automated assembly and packaging applications

A new high-speed six axes industrial robot offering increased flexibility and compactness over SCARA type arms is now available from FANUC Robotics UK Limited. The M-6/B/2HS, with a payload capability of 2 kg, can complete the industry recognised pick and place benchmark – motion pattern 25 mm×305 mm ×25 mm – at a best in class rate of 94 cycles per minute (see Plate 2).

Aimed firmly at high speed packaging and assembly applications, the M-6/B/2HS is designed for fast pick and place operations. A derivative of the well proven M-6/B, the new arm has up rated motors producing major axes speeds of up to 2608 per second and a joint 6 wrist axis speed of 1,200° per second.

The M-6/B/2HS has a compact space saving design using a reduced length[compared to the M-6/B] between joints two and three. Its six axes configuration, combined with a reach of 0.951 m, provides the robot with the versatility to place product to, or from, a tilted pallet, or pallets positioned on multiple layers.

Using FANUC's intelligent R-J3/B controller two arms can be controlled from a single processor. Together with FANUC's dual arm visual line tracking capability this provides the option to dramatically speed up packaging and assembly operations.
