Guests from all walks of industry recently took up an invitation to see robot systems experts Stäubli Unimation at work with top assembly automation specialists Modular Automation.

Following Modular's announcement as preferred Automated Assembly system integrators for Stäubli's noted six-axis RX robot range, the busy working environment of the Modular Automation showcase factory in Birmingham provided an ideal backdrop for a series of informal sessions.

During their visit, top engineers and manufacturing decision makers had the opportunity of discussing with senior company staff the increasing role of robotics in assembly automation applications. The Stäubli display included working demonstrations,illustrating the speed and accuracy of their latest robots (see Plate 2).

Among the many machine systems currently under development, Modular were able to introduce their first assembly system to feature a Stäubli RX60 robot. Trevor Dixon, Modular Automation's Technical Director, explained, "When originating automation solutions it has always been our policy to adopt the most suitable and cost-effective approach available. Year on year, robotics are becoming the first choice where speed, reliability and accuracy are important."

For the ultimate benefit of the customer, Modular is keen to build partnership agreements with the best suppliers in the market and has its own preferred supplier list.
