New pneumatic robotic grippers

Keywords Pneumatic grippers, Robotics

Parker Pneumatic has introduced a new range of compact robotic grippers the P5G-R Series which offers design engineers higher accuracy and longer life expectancy, but at a lower cost than competing product ranges (see Plate 3).

Plate 3 Parker Pneumatic's new P5G-Rrobotic grippers offer design engineers improved performance at a lower cost than competing products.

Pneumatic grippers replace the "hand of man" in materials handling applications. They are used in automated systems for the repetitive handling of assemblies of similar shapes and weights principally to pick up, securely hold and put down workpieces.

Parker Pneumatic's new P5G-R Series comprises three types of gripper parallel in five sizes, angular in five sizes and angular 180° in three sizes. All P5G-R models are fully compatible with Parker Pneumatic 3D series automation products, which include carrier, linear, short-stroke and wrist rotate modules.

P5G-R grippers have an average service life of ten million cycles and offer high repeatability (to 0.03mm) and a high cycle rate. Each type comprises an aluminium body and two tempered steel jaw carriers connected to the pneumatic piston, which is fitted with a magnetic ring which senses open or closed status of the jaws.

Precise adjustment of the jaws can be carried out to suit the application and the grippers retain the workpiece in the event of air supply failure. New software, to enable users to size the correct gripper for specific applications, will be available in the near future.
