A new, versatile mini-robot capable of handling very low payloads has been launched by KUKA UK (see Plate 5).
Plate 5 KUKA's new KR 3 robot which is capable of handling very low payloads
The KR 3 is specially designed for a variety of tasks including the handling and assembly of small parts such as CNC machine tending, component testing and machining tasks such as grinding and polishing.
The easy-to-use robot, which handles payloads up to 3kg and has a repeatability of 0.05mm, can be integrated virtually anywhere thanks to its"tabletop" format.
The flexibility of the KR 3 also means it is suitable for inverted mounting or force-controlled gripping.
KUKA's innovative electronic drive, which powers the robot arm, ensures a smaller control cabinet, improved signal transmission quality and less cabling.
The KR 3 is controlled by KUKA's Windows-based KCP control panel and KRC1 robot controller and is fully compatible with other KUKA robots, using the same hardware/software interfaces and programming languages.
Optional extras are available from KUKA for the KR 3 and these include a linear unit, which can be configured in 1m lengths up to a maximum of 5m, and standard software functions such as sensor integration and PLCs. Easy integration of robot vision systems is also possible.
KUKA produces a wide range of robots capable of handling payloads from 3kg to 350kg.
