New ultra-compact flat swivel unit for small robots with impressive capability
Ideal for use on small robots and similar size handling systems is an ultra-compact flat swivel unit (see Plate 7), a new addition to the portfolio of workholding products from Leader Grippers, Chertsey.
The small dimensions of this rugged unit, manufactured in Germany by precision engineers, Sommer Automatic, are impressive.

The mounting height is only 44mm, the housing is 112mm x 62mm and the unit weighs just over one kilogram. Equally outstanding, the device has the capability of rotating loads with t torque of up to 3.5Nm.
In operation, a linear-acting toothed cylinder piston drives a hollow pinion supported on bearings. The angles of rotation are 90° and 180° and they are adjustable by up to ±3° to an accuracy of ±0.01°. The two end positions can be damped by hydraulic shock absorbers if desired.
An integral hollow shaft enables the convenient passage of electric cables and pneumatic lines, providing a space-saving supply route for grippers and other components.
