Keywords: Univeyor, Robots, Handling, Palletising

:Taking advantage of the advances in robotic handling, Univeyor have developed a cost-effective robot palletising cell that can be adapted to a wide variety of products combined with retail display trays (see Plate 1).

One particular application of the new robot is for bottled drinks. At Kavli,Univeyor have implemented a fully-automated system which is able to pick up loads of filled plastic bottles and place in card retail display trays on pallets. The precision handling and multi-function head also allow the robot to place interlocking card trays on top of bottles in order to stack a full pallet load at high speed.

Capable of handling 8,000 bottles per hour, including nesting into display trays, the robot has one considerable advantage over bespoke automated equipment– adaptability. The combination of four-axis movement, dexterous picking head and easy to configure control system make accommodation of stacking pattern and product changes more cost effective.

The complete package includes industrial standard PC with touch screen controls that makes the system easy to adapt to any operation. The specially developed control system, running on a Windows PC, holds all the necessary product data and stacking patterns for the Univeyor robot to handle a wide variety of products.

The user interface makes it easy to add new stacking patterns and details as required. The control system also automatically optimises all movements including speed and acceleration.
