A fully digital world tour in 1 h
At present, interested parties can explore the world of modern arc welding in a fully digital format. First, modern welding technology is based on a comprehensive digitalisation of hardware and software. Secondly, the welding system manufacturer, Fronius, offers a CD entitled "Digital welding" to every PC owner. Prepared in multi-media format, anyone with an interest in welding can currently see, hear and read for themselves all they could ever want to know about the current state of MIG/ MAG-, TIG- and MMA welding. Application videos,pictures, high-speed arc footage and more are used to bring the subject matter alive.
Anyone with a Pentium II 200 MHz and 32MB memory or above can enter the virtual world of welding. The subject matter and the way it is explained is more than remarkable. The user can take a guided tour through the software or select specific areas and topics. The user can explore the contemporary world of welding from A for automated welding to C for current pulses or I as in ignition variants to S for spatter-free ignition (SFI) (Plate 4).
Observers will be fascinated to watch the material transfer through the arc in materials during the various welding processes. High-speed videos (2,250 images per second) make these insights possible. But the CD can also offer useful tips, e.g. which type of electrode is most suitable for manual electrode welding. As well as a look behind the scenes of the pulsing weld pool, the CD can also be used as a form of structured learning. It only takes a mouse-click for the user (it could be a lecturer, trainer or teacher) to build an update on modern welding technology for presentation purposes.
