Purpose

This study aims to examine the impact of collaborative innovation network embeddedness on enterprise value co-creation. It further tests the mediating role of technological resource absorption capacity and the moderating effects of independent director network centrality and enterprise agile responsiveness.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on China’s new energy vehicle industry patent data from 2010 to 2023, this study empirically tests the research hypotheses through social network analysis and fixed-effects models.

Findings

Collaborative innovation network relational embeddedness and structural embeddedness exert a significant positive effect on enterprise value co-creation. Technological resource absorption capacity mediates the relationship among relational embeddedness, structural embeddedness and enterprise value co-creation. The independent director network centrality and agile responsiveness, respectively, positively moderate the relationship between collaborative innovation network relational embeddedness, structural embeddedness and enterprise value co-creation.

Originality/value

This study not only enriches theoretical research on the relationship between the collaborative innovation network embeddedness and enterprise value co-creation but also provides important practical insights for enterprises to enhance value co-creation effectiveness by optimizing innovation network resources.
