Repair and stabilisation of Trinity Bridge, Crowland, UK

In 2002, Lincolnshire County Council carried out works to halt long-term differential settlement to an unusual 700-year-old bridge, situated in the centre of the small market town of Crowland. The chosen solution, following site investigation, allowed the works to be carried out economically and quickly, with no damage to the historic fabric of the bridge or any surrounding archaeological deposits, and minimal disruption to pedestrian and vehicle access adjacent to the bridge. The scheme was recognised for its innovative method of protecting the ancient monument following an award at the Historic Bridge and Infrastructure Awards 2003.
