This paper describes the design and construction of the A34 Wolvercote highway viaduct replacement scheme in the UK. The existing twin viaduct carrying the A34 over the A40, the Oxford Canal and the Network Rail Oxford to Rugby lines was replaced with a single new viaduct essentially on the same lines as the existing viaduct. Two-way traffic was maintained on the A34 by constructing the new viaduct in two halves partly offline, sliding one 250 m long 5000 t half over to meet the other during an overnight closure of the A34 and A40 trunk roads and a weekend closure of the railway, and stitching the two together.
