The presence of asbestos fibres and asbestos-containing materials within recycled building materials is not a new phenomenon, but due to increased awareness and therefore increased analysis of these recycled materials, it has become an additional contaminant for developers to consider when investigating construction sites. Further to this, asbestos replacements such as man-made mineral fibre and refractory ceramic fibre currently being used in construction may be the problems of the future, the risks of which should be considered now.
