By now contributors and readers are familiar with the new look of Journal of Corporate Real Estate. The external and internal changes were made to ensure that the publication remains the leading peer-reviewed outlet for academic and practitioner research in corporate real estate management. The issues investigated in the journal reflect the current challenges faced by corporate real estate managers around the world, including strategic planning, outsourcing, performance measurement, sustainability, and workplace design.

JCRE is now a part of Emerald Group Publishing, the leading publisher of property-related journals. This association gives JCRE access to researchers who are publishing in related fields such as facilities management and construction. Researchers are also now more likely to benefit from the greater visibility of the journal.

We have achieved two of our goals for the revised journal thus far. One is the expansion of coverage to ensure that JCRE is truly global. During the past year, we have published work by authors from Malaysia, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, and Saudi Arabia as well as the US and UK. The issues are universal, but the local situations and viewpoints provide valuable insights into different cultures and business models. We have also increased the proportion of academic research included in the journal to help bridge the divide between theoretical research and practice. We hope this will encourage collaborative research between universities and private industry. Such exchanges will benefit corporate real estate managers by giving them access to leading edge management and finance theory. University faculty will benefit from access to real world data and guidance on educational programs to produce the next generation of corporate real estate managers.

The success of the journal depends heavily on the work of the editorial advisory board members listed inside the journal. Their guidance and reviews ensure that the journal remains relevant and readable. The editor is ultimately responsible for determining content as well as shepherding the authors and reviewers through the publication process. I have enjoyed helping Emerald reinvigorate JCRE. The editorship gave me the opportunity to meet many accomplished corporate real estate academics and professionals who have worked tirelessly with me to develop a wonderful resource for corporate real estate professionals, researchers, and students. As I hand the editorial reins over to Clare Eriksson, I know that the journal will only continue to grow and improve.
